Glass Sculpting Workshop

A workshop on ‘Glass Sculpting’ is ongoing at the ICAT, Chennai campus. The two-day workshop is being conducted by Mr. V. Srinivasa Raghavan from Dakshin Chitra Heritage center to 20 students from various departments.

The core aim of the workshop is to teach the process of sculpting with melting glass. It is been planned to demonstrate how to create a duck, flower and so on, as glass melts on fire.

A two-day workshop on ‘Glass Sculpting’ was conducted at the ICAT, Chennai campus on 04th and 05th of February, 2015, The workshop was conducted by Mr. V. Srinivasa Raghavan from Dakshin Chitra Heritage center, who is a Glass Blower Demonstrator trained in scientific glass blowing with around 25 years of experience. The workshop was attended by 20 ICAT students from various departments and few faculties from Image.

The core aim of the workshop was to teach the process of sculpting with melting glass. Mr. V. Srinivasa Raghavan demonstrated how to soften a glass rod at high temperature to create 3D artifacts. He created artifacts resembling a duck, swan, peacock, flower, and sea horse by using a glass rod. He also demonstrated how melting glass can be blown to make a glass vase.

Students where excited looking into the beautiful art form using glass. During the workshop, the students were given an opportunity to create their own glass sculptures of duck, flower and seahorse. Individual attention was given to the students and they were motivated to create their own art designs.
