Dear Readers of this news,

In the spirit of broadening the scope of the Indian Gaming Industry, We, the students of ICAT are pleased to share our achievement in becoming the winning team from India in the Global Gaming Competition “Dare to be Digital”. Our success story would inspire many such passionate youngsters like us to get into the Gaming industry and achieve bigger heights.

A trip to a foreign country representing India for a global game design competition is every gamer’s dream. We — The Team Noobeez (Sriram Ganesh, Abi Maruthu, Sujan Sundareswaran and Palanivel Rajan), Team Virtual Horizon (Elton Savio, Javed Amanullah, Srinivas Dutta, Kashyap Sinha) and Team Thunder birds (Zico Mahillary, Pankaj Gogoi, Arup jothi Das, Pinku das) have realized this dream through Dare to Be Digital, a highly competitive global game design competition. We thank our college ICAT for enabling us to acquire this opportunity to share our thoughts and meet other young game developers from different parts of the world.

Dare to be Digital is an Annual International video game design competition held in UK for students who love to play games and want to design their own games. Every year between June and August, students from across the globe form teams and compete over ten weeks to design a fully functional video game prototype. At the end of ten weeks, all the teams showcase their work and are judged by industry experts.

Students taking part this year are from various institutions in the UK, Irish Republic, Canada, Norway, India and China. From India, we are the only college who got selected. While our team made it to the finals, the other 2 teams from our college have been selected under the Winning dreamer ideas and will each win £500, an invitation to the Dare Awards ceremony to receive their cash prize, a single return UK flight and 3 night's accommodation in Edinburgh to take part in Dare ProtoPlay.

Our game, Colour Scheme, is a 3D platform ball game that involves the concept of colour theory designed for kids and casual gamers of every age. We are working on a neat and simple concept with high replayability and improved physics.

It was a sweet surprise when we got a mail from the Dare team saying that we made it to Dare 2009. A win in this competition also nominates us for the prestigious BAFTA awards. We will leave to Scotland on 4th June and the competition goes on from 8th June to 16th August. Then we travel to Edinburgh on 16th August for Dare Protoplay and we return to India on 18th August.

We will be leaving to Scotland on 4th June. The competition goes on from 8th June to 14th August at Dundee, Scotland. Then we travel to Edinburg on 16th August for Dare Protoplay and we return to India on the 18th of August. Our selection would not have been possible without the support and encouragement, which we received from the professors and lecturers of ICAT. We are also very grateful to our parents who have been a pillar of support during this project. We hope to win the competition and bring laurels to the country and inspire other Gaming Enthusiasts particularly youngsters like us.

Many people including those who play games only enjoy the fun of game play but few like us were inspired by the seriousness involved in creating them. The feeling is great when we create our own game and play it.

Our selection would not have been possible without the support and encouragement that we have received from the professors and lecturers of ICAT. Our college seniors who also got selected for the same competition in 2007 and 2008 have given us valuable tips which we believe would help us to win. We are also very grateful to our parents who have been a pillar of support during this project even though they were initially skeptical about us choosing a career in gaming. We hope to win this competition and bring laurels to our country and inspire more young gamers to put their foothold in this exciting and entertaining industry.
