Course Overview
The Visual Effects program prepares the students for a career in the exciting world of creating high-quality digital effects for Film, Television and Gaming. Students learn to integrate live-action footage with computer-generated imagery or other elements (such as miniatures or Matte painting) to create realistic environments. Students learn traditional Film techniques such as Cinematography, Direction alongside creating Miniatures and Matte paintings, which serve as background plates for keyed, or rotoscoped elements. The live-action compositing techniques they master are Colour correction and colour matching, Wire and rig removal, Rotoscoping, Masking and Chroma-keying through bluescreening and greenscreening. They also learn Digital animation techniques to generate natural meteorological phenomena such as smoke, explosions, fire or any imaginable atmospheric disturbances using particle effects and simulate physical conditions through dynamics. All these endeavours contribute to the development of a multilayered composite for a film or short film, through collaborative effort.
