A group of 30 ICAT students from Visual FX & 3D Animation were arranged an industrial visit to Prime Focus.
Students' Experience (as narrated by Nandha Kumar - student)
We gathered at their studio at 2.45 PM. First, we were shown the Da Vinci DI (Digital Intermediate) machine which is used for high-end post production, color grading and film restoration in feature films. The 35 mm film is first scanned using the DI machine at 4K resolution which is then converted into 2K resolution. 2K is the acceptable standard to be used with Indian Cinema Projectors. We were shown the work space area where Visual effects and 3D artists work with the scanned footages. We saw the professionals work on Keying, Roto, 3D titling and wire removal. Then we were shown how the primary and secondary color correction is done. The Industrial visit was very useful as it helped us understand the work flow and culture in a production facility. It was also exciting to see artists work on forthcoming movies. We are looking forward for more industrial visits like this and thanks to our Placement Department to take us to one of the best studios in India.
