Course Overview
The first year introduces the students to computing as applicable to the Digital Media Industry. Students develop a practical understanding of the underlying principles of Digital Media industry including elements of design, typography, digital audio and video, animation, authoring and preparing project proposals. They also learn the various methods of acquiring, collating and evaluating digital media contents, the ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner and develop judgement on the various software and hardware used in the digital media industry. Through the Art module the students learn how to use the drawing processes and materials as a means of visual enquiry and self-expression. Students also learn the background on the major developments and issues that were instrumental in the development of the Digital Media Industry, the process of pre-production with emphasis on producing concept designs and storyboards and are also introduced to the basic concepts of a programming language and the development of structured algorithms to solve informally specified problems.

Year 2 builds upon the skills gained in year 1 and focuses on the study of the science and technology involved in the development of PC and Mobile games. Starting with a review of Operating Systems, Data Structures, Object Oriented Analysis & Design, Software Engineering, Mathematics and Physics the students are provided as strong underpinning knowledge for developing games. The course then focuses on graphic programming, starting with a revisit to OOPS, introduction to graphic programming and learning to use Direct X Graphic API. They are also introduced to a variety of software technologies relevant to game development including Game engines, Input devices, Networking, Simulation engines, Game Effects, Sound and Artificial Intelligence.

Year 3 builds upon the individual skills that they have gained in the previous two years and will focus on their Project work. They also focus upon operational management through the business of Media; these modules develop business knowledge enabling them to manage projects and technology.
