The Learning Curve

Exploring different genres of photography and practicing the area of passion in intense becomes the course for the students through the three years of learning at ICAT. The skill building happens in a linear fashion and in the most balanced way.

Year I - Lay the Foundation with Art and Design

The strong focus on basics of art and design along with visual language theories and techniques applicable in the field give the students a good start to be a professional photographer. The students are then introduced to the different genres of photography that have shaped the uses and perceptions of the medium. Debates about the use, status, and meanings of photographs are conducted through selected historical case studies. Methodologies for developing ideas are explored, and use of workbooks, etc are developed in tutorials, group critics, and presentations. Students are also introduced to ideas and practices around studio work, including use of lighting, sets, props, etc. Further, they are introduced to the techniques of producing digital content and provided the essential skills for creating design layouts and image manipulation.

Year II – Practice Your Passion and Get Hands on the Digital World

Designed to meet the range of career aspirations, the year encourages professional practices on different genres of photography and considerations associated with the creative industries. The students are also given an overview of photojournalism. The modules in the year develop advanced understanding of concepts, methods, and tools used in the production of digital imagery/images. Further, they get an opportunity to engage in an extended, self-managed project to demonstrate the ability to create photographic works for different target audience and media.

Year III – Make Photographs that Move a Soul

To bring out the best in everyone, the students are given their opportunity to work independently towards creating their best works. They undertake practical and contextual research to define and evaluate core issues central to their work. With an all-round knowledge, they get their hands on every key step of building a presentable output. Further, they get to progress their dissertation to come up with a unique, admirable work.
