Course Overview

Get, Set to Design Games Outside the Realm of Imagination

The Bachelor's Degree in Game Art and Design at ICAT is a full-time program that offers intense practice in the art of crafting game aesthetics and skill of designing games in 2D, 3D, and more.

The program takes students through every step that grooms them as a game professional, right from understanding the design basics and documenting ideas to building what a gamer will love. On the road to make students as competent professionals, we ensure students get their hands on designing games for varied platforms including mobile, PC, Game Consoles, VR, AR, and more. This expands their opportunities towards their dream career.

Today, games are no more just for fun, they are seen as a free podium where one can achieve something and get motivated as an able person. It is a way of improving the memory power, cognitive health, decision making skills, and the most-needed social skills. Such reasons to play a game have made all from 6 year old to 80 year old to look for best games, leading to a high demand for skilled game professionals.

As per NASSCOM, at least two new game companies come up every month in India. Also, multinational game giants like EA (Electronic Arts) and UBISoft have their strong game development centres in India, and are expanding rapidly. This assures highly promising careers for the ones with fine game building skills.

Semester - I
  • Language Practical (Tamil / Hindi / French) - I
  • Language Practical - English-I – Prose and Communication Skills
  • This module develops the competence in using research methods and practices in art and design, and related subject areas.

  • The module provides practical expertise on observation drawing and helps students explore different mediums of art.

  • This module provides an overview of 2D Game Engines and the 2D game development process, including the principles of Project Management.

  • This module aims to provide critical awareness and facilitate critical as well as conceptual thinking of the various aspects of digital character and digital environment design.

Semester - II
  • Language Practical (Tamil / Hindi / French) - II
  • Language Practical - English-II – Prose, Extensive Reading and Communications Skills
  • The module develops a practical understanding of colour psychology and guides students through effective and creative use of design elements

  • This module reveals the essential awareness and understanding about different genres of games and consoles

  • With the knowledge gained on assorted design aspects, the students here get to create a concept art that also explains their understanding of colour psychology.

  • The module creates a practical understanding of the game development pipeline, and emphasizes on importance of creating Game Design Document

  • Environmental Studies
Semester - III
  • Language Practical – English - III - Communicative Skills
  • The students here develop an understanding of concepts, methods and tools used in the production of digital 3D objects.

  • This module develops advanced understanding on 2D game objects, sprites and UI elements

  • Essential understanding about the work of a Game Designer in the industry is provided in this module.

  • This introductory module focuses on the modelling and texturing skills required to build intermediary level of game objects and game environment

  • With the understanding gained on 2D game objects, sprites and UI elements, the students get the opportunity to design their full-fledge 2D game, from scratch

Semester - IV
  • Language Practical - English – IV – Employability Skills
  • Exploring the different approaches of creating a level design for games, this module develops the students’ ability to create a level design by using 2D and 3D game engines.

  • This module focuses on creating organic game models and well-defined characters with clear understanding of Poly Modelling, UV Wrapping, Rigging and Animation

  • The module provides practice on creating level design blueprint and level design document for game production. It guides students to create a level design on 2D and 3D game engines

  • This module provides practical awareness on how to produce a quality, game-ready 3D characters for games.

  • Value Education
Semester - V
  • The students here get a brief knowledge on effective business communication and techniques, business strategies, innovations, project budgeting, timely implementation of beneficial project plans and policies improving business partnerships in indie production

  • Module introduces students to communicate through visual, teaches to draw ideas with knowledge on design.

  • This module helps the students’ ability to develop their design and presentation skills by producing a range of specialist work.

  • This module is designed to make the students work in small teams, where they leverage skills, assets, and software applications to create an experimental gameplay prototype
