Course Overview

Animate Your Mind’s Eye on Screen

The Bachelor's Degree in Animation at ICAT is a full-time program that provides a deep understanding of anatomy, expressions, emotions, film techniques, and animation methodologies to create finest animation works.

The program gives the students every practice necessary to build specialist skills on animation by deploying the latest in technology rather than completely relying on technology. The students are guided to streamline their ideas and improve their visual communication and storytelling skills. They are given intense hands-on practice on the nuances of creating animation works for different mediums, including films, television, advertisements, games, education, and more. They are also given an insight of the latest AR, VR, and MR technologies.

  • Language Practical (Tamil / Hindi / French) - I
  • Language Practical - English-I –Prose and Communication Skills
  • Module introduces students to communicate through visual, teaches to draw ideas with knowledge on design.

  • Developing the students’ capability to visualize concepts, improve and explore visual communication.

Semester - II
  • Language Practical (Tamil / Hindi / French) - II
  • Language Practical - English-II – Prose, Extensive Reading and Communications Skills
  • Module helps to develop practical understanding of colour psychology, reinforce effective and creativity.

  • Students get introduced to the techniques to produce digital design content in raster and vector graphics.

  • Environmental Studies
Semester - III
  • Language Practical – English - III - Communicative Skills
  • Developing a firm understanding of methods and tools used in pre-production of design is the goal of this module.

  • This module emphasizes on the basics of keyframe animation. It discusses the principles and theory behind animating a scene.

  • This module helps students understand the aesthetics of cinema and the principles behind storytelling. It helps them discover the elements of a ‘good’ movie and recognize the function of films in our day-to-day life.

Semester - IV
  • Language Practical - English – IV – Employability Skills
  • The module gives an idea on how to use reference images to build characters from scratch and add features to them. It encourages students to build cartoonic, heroic, alien, human and animal characters, and then work on the Look Development, where they create realistic materials for digital assets.

  • Students here get an advanced understanding of concepts, methods and tools used in the production of computer generated objects. They develop an understanding of the principles and processes used to create successful output in the chosen area of specialization.

Semester - V
  • This module is aimed to provide a brief knowledge on effective business communication and techniques, business strategies, innovations, project budgeting, timely implementation of beneficial project plans and policies improving business partnerships.

  • This module helps the students’ ability to develop their design and presentation skills by producing a range of specialist work. It develops students’ ability to critique their own work and that of their peers in a professional manner.

  • Students in this module will develop a detailed artwork for their project before starting the production process. This will ensure that they lay a sound foundation for their project.

Semester - VI
  • In this module, students will work on a live project in a Design Studio environment / a similar organization, where they seek hands-on experience in research and product development. This will help them greatly to take up industry challenges with confidence.

  • In this module, the students are expected to take up an independent study and work on the production of an Animated Short Film. The module extends students’ knowledge on media, methods and process development with respect to the specialist practice.
